Software Development Thinking Applied to the Real World, Part II

Naturally, a sequel to this comic strip.
Workers ask the boss how they are supposed to dig a shortcut up the hill. The boss tells them is a 500 yard trip, so they should just start digging down 5 yards. That way he can estimate the total effort required. Two weeks later, they've only made it 2.5 yards and the boss concludes he's going to need more people.
